Disney Cruise Line unveiled new ships, islands, and itineraries at D23 Expo

At the D23 Expo on September 11, 2022, Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products Chairman Josh D’Amaro revealed numerous surprises concerning Disney Cruise Line‘s future plans. Disney cruisers were ecstatic to learn that the Disney Treasure, the company’s newest and sixth ship, will be named after Walt Disney.

The next Disney Cruise Line ship will be named Disney Treasure. In a never-before-seen concept film, Peter Pan flies above the ship to reveal not just the ship’s name, but also a startling assortment of Disney characters looking for adventure.

D’Amaro also mentioned that the Disney Treasure would feature a brand-new motif not seen before on a Disney Cruise Line ship. The adventure theme, which was inspired by Walt Disney’s love of travel, will pave the way for spectacular experiences that will immerse visitors in some of the company’s most renowned stories.

“At the heart of every adventure, there’s a treasure, and we can’t wait for you to create memories aboard this spectacular ship,” D’Amaro said.

The Grand Hall will exude an appealing sense of adventure, allowing passengers to seek out all the treasures on board from the minute they set sail. Inspired by the grandeur and mystery of a golden castle, it draws on real-world elements from Asia and Africa and pays homage to Walt Disney Animation Studios’ famous tale, “Aladdin.”

A Disney Cruise Line tradition, the trademark atrium character statue will be a shining, shimmering, splendid portrayal of Aladdin, Jasmine, and the Magic Carpet soaring together toward a whole new world of adventure.

The Disney Treasure is set to arrive in 2024. It’s the second of three new ships scheduled until 2025, following the Disney Wish, which launched in July. The Wish class ships run on liquefied natural gas and have 1,254 guest cabins.

Disney’s Second Bahamas Destination – Lighthouse Point

D’Amaro said that development on Disney’s second island destination in the Bahamas, Lighthouse Point on the island of Eleuthera, has begun, revealing fresh details and concept art for the D23 audience.

Disney is collaborating with Bahamian artists and experts to create a destination that embodies the natural beauty and rich culture of the Bahamas, brought to life through Disney narrative and the unrivaled service of local cast and crew.

The latest designs depict a bright beach resort imbued with the color and vitality of Bahamian craftsmanship. Aside from the beautiful beaches, family will enjoy a leisure center, restaurants, shopping, a water playground, a cultural pavilion, and other amenities.

Disney has pledged to develop less than 20% of the area, to use solar energy for 90% of the site’s electricity, to use sustainable building principles, and to transfer more than 190 acres of privately held land to the government. Environmental management plans have already been devised and will be maintained throughout the building and operating phases.
